The awards ceremony, which traditionally is meant to happen on October 20th of every year, had to be pushed to the 18th of this month in this years’ edition due to the prevailing political environment. Churchill grown comedian and urban sensation MCA Tricky was basically ‘at home ’ during the event. and he could not make any mistakes, trouncing a whole list of other big names to become the Mashujaa Awards Comedian of the Year.
The courageous, humble and young funny man took the stage majestically to receive his award smiling all the way. He was accompanied by a contingency of other budding comedians in the industry. Just like how most of the other comedians tend to start cracking jokes when they are on stage to receive an award, MCA was quick to throw one rib cracker that literally sent the crowd into a bubble.
He thanked all his fans and industry stakeholders who have played a key role in helping him forge a successful career in comedy within such a short period of time; considering the big number of youths who are entering this line of profession each day, hoping to make it big eventually.
Great solidarity in the entertainment industry was at play during his awarding, that saw most of the other nominees for the same category also rise to the stage to congratulate him. The Real Househelps of Kawangware actor and comedian DJ Shiti, who had also been nominated in this category, shocked many when he revealed that he actually voted for MCA Tricky!
He said that although he wanted the award to come his way just as bad, he personally voted for his able competitor because he believed MCA was a better comedian than him. Sentiments that were also echoed by MCA Tricky himself, also claiming he voted for Shiti!
In the Artist of the Year category, Nyashinski, who was the winner of the award, was battling it out with gospel musican Bahati, Mr Seed, Zigwembe hitmaker Bruz Newton and Phylow Young. Although he was not present to pick his award, the “Malaika” singer was widely expected to carry the day, especially after he had received nomination for the MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act.
