The fashion industry in Kenya has been experiencing a strong revolution and positive turnaround from about 7 years ago and everyone is loving it. This has seen the discovery and fast rise to prominence of a number of pageants, high fashion events, modeling agencies, fashion magazines and fashion award ceremonies to name but a few. This past weekend on the 14th of this month witnessed the third Annual Mtindo Afrika procession that went down with so much glam at the Eka Hotel along Mombasa road.

Mtindo Afrika is an annual fashion gala in Kenya that focuses on Afro-modern fashion brands with the intention of promoting and identifying these designers and brands as trendsetters in Africa.

Mtindo is a Swahili word for “Trend” and the Mtindo Afrika brand was founded and first launched in the lake-side city in 2015; with collaborated efforts from renown designer Vinn Clizz and fashion icon cum TV presenter Jamal Gaddafi.

The event focuses on bringing together not only the latest, but the most creative and futuristic fashion labels, upcoming or established.

This year Mtindo Afrika was aligned with one of the most beautiful seasons in Kenya, crowned by the flowering of the Jacaranda tree, and this made the theme for this year’s event. “We acknowledge that it is Autumn in some parts of the world, and the Jacaranda tree symbolizes that for us in Kenya” explains Paynette Joan, the founder of Velour Model Management company which provided models and were also major stakeholders in this year’s event.

This year, the event featured 7 fashion designers drawn from across the region and organizers say it keeps getting better every year with the innovation of more creative and beautiful designs

Other designers who showcased include Samwel Zebedayo of House of Zebedayo from Tanzania, Christine Atieno Kihara of Afro-Bertine, Purity Nyairo of Boyani Fashions, Bridgette Hanjari,  Irene Kamau of Reign Fitters and Kijukka Abas of Kai Divo  from Uganda.

This year’s event played with the setup, bringing a different, feel to the entire fashion experience. An art and fashion merger thanks to Creative Lab Africa with amazing mounted images, brought the whole room to life.

The production of the event this year was entrusted to one of Kenya’s fastest rising modeling agency, Velour Model Management.

The event “Invites Only” event was packed to capacity, the guests all looked glam and the love for fashion was very evident.

The event was hosted by HOT 96 FM bad-ass presenter Teddy Eugene and the beautiful Linda Simbauni. Some of the sponsors for the included K24 TV, Dgohnie Empire, Power of Lens Photography, Uber, KU TV, Eka Hotel and Vinn Clizz Limited.

The next Mtindo Afrika event will be held in October 2018 and organizers can’t wait to give you another phenomenal fashion experience. Mtindo Afrika C.E.O Vinn Clizz gave the last word to wrap up the show with loads of gratitude to all the stakeholders who had worked so hard to make the event a success.
